The Department of Sociology tasked me with designing several icons for different programs within the department. I worked closely with Professor Sandra Levitsky to create both the Sociology Health and Medicine and Law Justice Social Change icons. For the SHM icon, we wanted to represent the sociologist interacting with individuals in a medical setting. The main idea behind this icon is listening to people because that is what a SHM major will be trained to do. For the LJSC icon, we wanted to show people coming together for justice. This major deals with political activism and law which we represented with the scales of justice.
I worked with Rebecca Christensen, Director of the Project Community, to design an updated set of icons for the program. Each icon represents a main area of focus; education, activism, and health. We wanted to represent the three coming together to form Project Community with a circle. The horizontal version was created to fit with other UM icons/logos and the circle for the website and swag items.
